Kingston-on-Thames shows off their musical history

For those of you interested in the musical history of the Kingston-on-Thames area, there is a new exhibition just opened at the local Rose Theatre. Supported by the Lottery Fund it collects together local history testimony covering the role of the American GIs based in nearby Bushey Park during WWII and their taste in ‘race’ records, the workers memories of the Decca Records manufacturing plant at New Malden turning out all those Rolling Stones and David Bowie albums. Plus the local gigs in the 60s and 70s like Eel Pie Island, the Toby Jug, Surbiton Folk Club and all the other local venues and the musicians who lived there or played there. It was opened today by the Kingston mayor and runs until September
